In a heartwarming tale of youthful innovation, Nontsikelelo Phume, a six-year-old rising star from Bloemfontein in the Free State, has launched a book on business.
The book titled Rainbow Business introduces children to the world of entrepreneurship, money and savings in a fun and practical way.
Phume explained that Rainbow Business was a colourful celebration of young entrepreneurship, packed with creative ideas on how young children could make their own money and develop good financial habits.
The book covers themes such as entrepreneurship, saving and business basics.
“I wrote Rainbow Business to teach other kids how to be smart with money and hope that as they grow up, they’ll understand that saving money isn’t just for our parents, we can do it too and teach more kids on how to save and learn about basis of a business,” she said.
The idea for the book came about when she shared her notes from business class with her parents, who would record and help her write them down correctly.
Her mom, Thoko Phume, suggested putting the information into a book format and Rainbow Business was born.
“Being with my parents on a few business meetings and seeing what they do at work, it was a lot of things in so many different ways that I’m still trying to learn even today,” she said.
“The idea of calling the book Rainbow Business came from the many colours of the rainbow, it’s like a rainbow of ideas and things happening at the same time,” she added.
Thoko Phume is overwhelmed with pride.
“It’s a mix of emotions, but the joy and sense of accomplishment are indescribable,” she explained.
She said as an entrepreneur herself, she’s had the privilege of sharing this journey with her daughter and it has been an incredible experience.
“Seeing her explore new opportunities and ideas that I never had the chance to encounter is truly exhilarating,” she said.
“What’s even more special is the possibility of her joining me in business one day, taking our endeavours to new heights and innovating for future generations,” she said.
She added that the thought of passing on her knowledge and experience to Phume and watching her grow into a successful business leader was a dream come true.
Charmaine Mrwebi, founder of Charmza Literary Club, said they were thrilled to have played a role in producing and launching Rainbow Business.
She said Phume was their youngest author to date.
“We are excited to share ‘Rainbow Business’ with the world, inspiring a new generation of writers and thinkers,” she said
