A brand of Limpopo produced indigenous teas is set to be showcased on the global stage as South African food and beverage companies showcase their products on the global stage at the Anuga International Food and Beverage Trade Fair in Cologne, Germany, from 4–8 October 2025.
“Anuga gives us a chance to present products from a small village in Limpopo to international buyers. Organic teas are in high demand worldwide, and we are confident that our products will compete successfully on the global market,” said Phaahla.
“The trip to Germany is more than just an opportunity to showcase our teas. Securing export orders would drive production growth, create new jobs, and allow us to expand our state-of-the-art factory while promoting indigenous knowledge and agro-tourism in our community,” Phaahla added.

Widely regarded as the world’s largest food trade fair, Anuga offers an unparalleled opportunity for local businesses to expand their international footprint and connect with global buyers.
South African Fruit and Vegetable Canners Export Council (SAFVCEC) general manager Jill Atwood-Palm, said the event provides an ideal platform to demonstrate the quality, taste, and variety of South Africa’s canned fruit and vegetable products.
“Our industry is known for world-class manufacturing practices and premium quality products, produced in facilities fully compliant with international food safety standards. Combined with the natural quality of our raw materials, our products are among the best in the world,” Atwood-Palm explained.
SAFVCEC members export over 85% of their processed fruit, with 2024 exports totaling R15.5 billion to more than 125 countries across approximately 50 product lines. Europe remains a critical market, accounting for about 34% of exports, with the Netherlands as the main entry point and Germany ranking as the sixth-largest market.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition is supporting both SAFVCEC and Setšong Tea Crafters by providing a national pavilion at Anuga where 30 South African agro-processing companies will be participating, highlighting the country’s commitment to growing exports and diversifying markets.
“At Anuga, we engage directly with international buyers, benchmark against competitors, and assess emerging consumer trends. These insights are invaluable in helping our members remain competitive globally,” said Atwood-Palm.
