Small town business goes big at home

Dinho Moitsimang may be a resident of an unknown town to most people in the Northern Cape, but this has not prevented him from becoming an entrepreneur in many areas.
His latest accomplishment – Moitsi Juice – involves him manufacturing juice from his home in Jan Kempdorp.
The 28-year-old told Vutivi News he has always run his own businesses. And even when the country was under lockdown level four last year, he took a risky decision.
“It was a time when there was no alcohol, so I took advantage of the need for refreshments,” he said.
“I was inspired by someone whom I brought juice from in large quantities, and after I witnessed his success, I decided to do research on selling juice. Following the research that I conducted, I purchased a basic juice-making machine which I intend on upgrading, as my business is still an early start-up (stage).”
Moitsi Juice is a subsidiary of Moitsi Holdings, which also does mobile advertising and provides tissues.
“I used to run my mother’s company called Gavender SA, and that is where I learned the role of an entrepreneur,” he said.
Moitsimang said that he decided to open a juice-manufacturing business after he saw a gap in the local market.
“There’s only one company that produced juice and the company had no competition, so I took advantage of that,” he said.
“The slogan of my juice is ‘Drink Smart, Live Smart’, which captures the lifestyle that those who drink my juice must experience from it. As soon as the company grows, I plan on manufacturing and selling bottled water.”
But in the meantime, he has already expanded his business.
“We are currently producing iced tea which we intend on launching in mid-February,” he said.
“I will be the first person in my area to manufacture iced tea, as there isn’t any other iced tea manufacturer in the area.”
He sells his juice mostly around his community and in surrounding areas like Taung, Vryburg, Kimberly and Pampierstad.
He also supplies fast-food chain restaurant Mochachos in the Phokwane Municipality and Captain DoRego in the Diamond Pavilion Mall in Kimberly.
Moitsimang said one of the challenges has been meeting the demands for his juice.
“Customers would want to order about 700 juice bottles, and I used to struggle with being able to provide,” he said.
“After I bought a large cooler container, I was able to compensate by storing the juice in the container, enabling me to produce more and meet the demands of my customers.”
He plans to open his own factory one day.
