South Africa’s SMMEs are benefiting from Telkom’s strong financial performance, with the company investing in enhanced mobile and fibre services.
This growth is enabling small businesses across the country to access affordable, reliable internet solutions that support digital transformation and business expansion.
In last financial year, Telkom reported a 1.9% increase in group revenue, reaching R21.4 billion. This was driven by a 10% rise in mobile service revenue and a 15.5% increase in fibre data service revenue.
As a result, Telkom has expanded its mobile and fibre networks, offering tailored packages to meet the specific needs of SMMEs. These enhanced services are crucial for small businesses that need fast, reliable internet to remain competitive.
Affordable and reliable internet is key for businesses that need to improve efficiency, communicate with clients and engage in online sales.
According to Telkom, its mobile and fibre solutions are designed to help, with packages such as Business Easy Connect Fibre offering speeds from 20 to 40 Mbps with uncapped data for R315 per month.
These packages ensure that SMMEs have the connectivity they need for daily operations. Additionally, Telkom’s mobile data services allow businesses to stay connected on the go.
Telkom has also helped SMEs implement cloud-based tools, improve communication with customers and streamline business operations.
Nomthandazo Phakhela, who runs a digital marketing agency in Johannesburg, saw significant improvements in productivity after switching to Telkom’s fibre service.
“Our internet speeds have been much faster, making operations smoother,” Phakhela said, noting that the improved service has enabled his agency to offer better solutions, resulting in increased opportunities.
Similarly, Khuthadzo Mavhunga, who operates a fashion retail business in Sibasa, Limpopo, credits Telkom’s mobile services with helping her expand her customer base.
“Telkom’s mobile data packages have allowed me to engage with my customers on social media, run my online store and manage inventory on the go,” she said.
The ability to engage a wider audience online has allowed Mavhunga to grow her business beyond her local market.
Katlego Mabuza, an internet café owner in Pretoria, also praised Telkom’s services.
“Since upgrading to Telkom’s fibre package, my café’s internet speed has dramatically improved, which has attracted more customers,” Mabuza said.
The improved connectivity has allowed him to offer uninterrupted browsing and remote workspaces, bringing in more foot traffic.
Experts agree that fast, reliable internet is essential for business success.
“Telkom’s investments in mobile and fibre networks are crucial for SME growth,” said economist Thabiso Mokoena.
