Recognised as a pioneer in Africa for infusing premium beverages into ice cream, GelaToh has sparked widespread conversation across social media and the food industry.
Living up to Charles M. Schulz’s famous words—”Life is like an ice cream cone, you have to lick it one day at a time”—consumers are eagerly embracing this innovative treat as it gains major momentum in the retail sector.
The award-winning brand, which recently won the Bambelela Business Award, offers a variety of handcrafted options using locally sourced South African dairy. Its alcoholic range features twelve distinct flavors, including Marula Crème Liqueur, Spiked Hazelnut Coffee, Malva Pudding & Marshmallow, Rum & Raspberry Liqueur, Strawberry Liqueur, Gin, Salted Caramel & Coconut, Milk Tart Booze, Tipsy Nougat, Smashed Chocolate Whiskey, Russian Vodka Shot, and Blow Job Shot.
With an alcohol by volume (ABV) ranging between 7% and 10%, these products are strictly not for sale to persons under the age of 18. Non-alcoholic options are also available.
Quality and compliance remain central to GelaToh’s operations. The business holds a valid liquor trading license and is certified with both the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and a Certificate of Acceptability (COA)—a legal prerequisite for manufacturing, handling, and selling food products.
Behind GelaToh’s rapid success is founder and managing director Thobekile Mchunu, who brings over 23 years of experience in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector. Originally from KwaZulu-Natal, Mchunu built a strong foundation for her business through formal education.
She holds a Diploma in Food Technology from the Durban Institute of Technology—where her entrepreneurial drive first surfaced selling muffins—excelled in food analysis and invention projects, and later earned a Diploma in Operations Management to master supply chain and logistics. Her expertise has successfully carved out a refreshing, unique space in the food market.
